ST. LOUIS - The Missouri National Guard is sending two Citizen-Airmen to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona to support relief operations in Haiti.

"In the wake of this almost unimaginable disaster, Missourians are showing their compassion for the people of Haiti in many ways," Gov. Jay Nixon said. "Providing members of the Missouri National Guard who have the needed skills and training is another way our state is helping the earthquake victims, and is just as vital as the ongoing generous donations from Missouri citizens, businesses and organizations."

The Airmen, from the 231st Civil Engineer Squadron, expect to become part of a larger civil engineer element that will help plan and direct operations in Haiti.

"Your Missouri National Guard has a skill that is needed in this effort, and we are proud to offer whatever help we can during this difficult time," said Brig. Gen. Stephen L. Danner, adjutant general for the Missouri National Guard. "Missouri National Guard Citizen-Soldiers and Airmen are well trained in disaster response and ready to respond where needed."

The Missouri National Guard Citizen-Airmen will head to the Air Force base today.
