548th TC leaves for training to prepare for Afghanistan deployment

TRENTON - Citizen-Soldiers with the 548th Transportation Company in Trenton completed their final home station drill this past weekend before deploying to Afghanistan. About 170 National Guardsmen with the unit left March 7 for Camp Clark in Nevada, Mo. to begin training as they prepare for a year-long mission.

During the drill the unit concentrated on finalizing paperwork and making sure Soldiers were ready for their departure. Equipment and gear were packed and loaded for the first leg of the mission.

The transportation unit will spend about five weeks in southwest Missouri as they prepare for the deployment. They will later receive further instruction at Fort Bliss, Texas before leaving the country.

The unit's deployment ceremony is scheduled for mid April in Trenton.
