Off duty Guard Soldier listed among the unaccounted for in Joplin

Joplin, Mo. - An off-duty Missouri Army National Guardsman, Specialist Dennis Melvin Osborn from Seneca, is listed among the missing in the massive tornado May 22 that devastated Joplin. He may be among the casualties of the tornado. He is a member of the 294th Engineer Company of Carthage.

Osborn is 34-years-old, born June 3. He first joined the Missouri National Guard April 1996 with the 203rd Engineer Battalion in Joplin and was honorably discharged April 2005. He mobilized March 2003 and deployed to Iraq with the 203rd through August 2004. He rejoined the Missouri Army National Guard November 2010.

Osborn is a graduate of Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training; he has nine years military service. The awards he has received during his distinguished military career include: Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/ M Device, Armed Forces Components Overseas Training Ribbon, Mechanic Badge, Missouri National Guard Commendation Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Missouri National Guard Recruiting/Retention Ribbon, and the Army Service Ribbon.

Osborn, born in Savannah, Illinois, is a husband and a father. His wife is Steffannie M. Osborn, and his step kids are, Matthew J. Barney and Aundrea D. Barney. His Mother, Helen A. Osborn.
