FSKC to broadcast game to troops

FOX Sports Kansas City will connect Missouri National Guard troops serving in Afghanistan with their families at home and baseball fans throughout the region during a special Royals telecast on Saturday, Aug. 6.

FOX Sports Kansas City's telecast of the Royals home game against the Detroit Tigers will be shown live worldwide on American Forces Network, and Missouri National Guard troops in Afghanistan will watch it and cheer on the Royals. FOX Sports Kansas City will show taped greetings and live interviews with the troops.

The special telecast is titled This One's For You, and it's presented on Armed Forces Day at Kauffman Stadium where the Royals will pay tribute to the military.

FOX Sports Kansas City plans to utilize a live satellite link from Afghanistan to interact with troops from the 548th Transportation Company, a Missouri National Guard unit based out of Trenton, Mo., as they watch the game in Afghanistan. Meanwhile families of the 548th will be at Kauffman Stadium and will be interviewed during the game so that soldiers in Afghanistan can see their loved ones. Earlier this year 170 soldiers from the 548th deployed to Afghanistan. The majority of the soldiers in the Company are at an airfield base in western Afghanistan.

Royals fans attending the game will be encouraged to participate by bringing banners and signs. And fans watching on TV will be invited to send messages to the soldiers via social media.

This special Royals telecast is being produced by FOX Sports Kansas City in coordination with the Royals, American Forces Network, DVIDS and the National Guard of Missouri.

Additional details will be announced the week of the game. FOX Sports Kansas City also presented a This One's For You telecast to the troops on Aug. 8, 2009.
