New commander takes charge of Trenton’s Road Warriors

By Jennifer Archdekin

TRENTON, Mo. - Missouri Army National Guard's 548th Transportation Company welcomed new leadership to the unit at a recent change of command ceremony in Trenton.

Capt. Douglas Adams, of Holts Summit, relinquished his command of the Road Warriors on Sunday, July 29, to Lt. James Fountain, of Kansas City, formerly of St. Louis.

This was Adams' first command and recently led the troops while on a year-long deployment to Afghanistan.

"I have mixed feelings about leaving the unit," said Adams. "These Soldiers are willing to work hard and do their job. Having a unit like that makes my job easier. As a commander it is stressful, but knowing the quality of unit I had helped put me at ease."

Fountain now has the reins making this his first command position, as well. One of the first tests he will face while leading this transportation company is preparing for the national-level earthquake exercise known as Vigilant Guard this November.

"I am really looking forward to the exercise," said Fountain. "Our role is the exact same as our mission in Afghanistan. It will be a perfect opportunity for our more experienced Soldiers to train those who didn't deploy, or who are new to the unit, on tactical convoy operations. We are going to get our Soldiers trained and ready to support the citizens of Missouri if we are ever called upon."

Adams works fulltime as a business manager in the facilities division for the Missouri Army National Guard in Jefferson City. He has been a Citizen-Soldier for over 17 years.

Fountain is the new assistant supply officer for the 110th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade in Kansas City. He has been a Guardsman for eight years and served over seven years with the active duty Army.
