CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Pvt. Daniel McGinnis, of Marble Hill, recently completed his military training to become an infantryman for Missouri National Guard's 1/138th Infantry Regiment in Perryville.
"I joined the Guard because I was physically and mentally able to serve," said McGinnis. "I felt a duty and responsibility to help protect the nation."
He also hopes to further his education by using the Guard's education benefits which will allow him to attend college while serving his country, said McGinnis
He graduated from basic training and advanced individual training at Fort Benning, Ga., June 2012.
Prior to training, McGinnis served with Company E of the Recruit Sustainment program in Cape Girardeau. Through the program, he learned basic Army skills and values and became more familiar with his role as a Soldier in the Missouri Army National Guard.
Sgt. 1st Class Steven Rhodes, recruiter at the Jackson armory, said McGinnis will be a great Soldier for his new unit and the Guard.
"He's determined and focused, but ready to push forward and complete any task," said Rhodes. "He's a good example of what an infantryman and Soldier should be."
McGinnis will begin serving with his new unit in August 2012
McGinnis is the son of Tim and Susan Green, of Marble Hill. He is a graduate of Mountain View Christian Academy.
