ALBANY, Mo. - Caleb Newman, of Albany, recently enlisted in the Missouri Army National Guard and will serve with the Headquarters, Headquarters Co., 110th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade in Kansas City.
Newman will report to Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. for basic training in October 2011. He will later receive instruction for her military occupational specialty as a geospatial engineer at Fort Belvoir, Va.
"I thought joining the National Guard was interesting and it appealed to what I'm interested in," said Newman. "I want to succeed."
Upon enlistment, Newman will earn more than $500 a month in GI Bill benefits plus 100 percent college tuition assistance. He also received a $5,000 signing bonus.
Newman is a 2011 graduate of Albany R-III High School. He is the son of Jason and Susan Newman of Albany.
Newman was recruited by Sgt. 1st Class Bobby Smith out of the Albany recruiting office.
