TRENTON - The Missouri Army National Guard's 548th Transportation Company in Trenton is setting out for a three-week annual training at Camp Roberts, Calif. Over 100 Soldiers will fly from Kansas City International Airport Friday morning.
The company's instruction is not only part of their yearly requirements for the National Guard, but it will also serve as preparation for an upcoming year-long deployment to Afghanistan in the spring.
The 548th will focus on mastering skills for their mission in Afghanistan. The company will take three palletized loading system trucks with them to Camp Roberts for hauling and convoy training. Troops will have individual weapons qualifications and will become familiarized with various automatic weapons. Troops will also be tested on day and night land navigation.
About 20 Soldiers will also receive mine resistant ambush protected vehicle training for sweeping landmines.
A lot of the training in California will be used for the validation process the company needs to be prepared to go into combat. This moves them one step closer to mission readiness.
