ST. JOSEPH - The Missouri Army National Guard's 27th Recruiting and Retention Battalion recently honored Soldiers for their past year's efforts in building the National Guard state-wide.
Among those honored was Staff Sgt. Angela Scobee with Area 1, 27th Recruiting and Retention Battalion in St. Joseph. Scobee received the Adjutant General's Top Producer Award.
The top producer award recognizes the top 10 recruiters in Missouri. Scobee was in the elite group of non-commissioned officers from the 88 recruiters currently in the state.
"I think that it is easy to be successful when you love what you do," said Scobee. "I love being a member of the Missouri Army National Guard and taking care of soldiers. I think that when people see how much you enjoy something it strikes up interest."
For Scobee, witnessing her recruits grow as Soldiers and advance in the National Guard gives her a sense of accomplishment, too.
"I think that we, as recruiters, get to see the results of our efforts every month at drill," said Scobee. "We see our recruits working as leaders or completing tasks that they didn't think they were capable of doing.
Scobee accredited much of her success to the support network she has at home enabling her to complete her mission as a Soldier.
"Our families see the long hours we put in, and the weekends we spend supporting community events and drills without seeing the accomplishments that go along with it," said Scobee. "It meant a lot to me that my husband was there to see me receive the award and was able to walk away with a sense of pride in the work that I do. I feel very blessed to have such a supportive family and give them a lot of credit for my success."
Scobee has been with the National Guard for over 17 years and has been a recruiter for almost three years in northwest Missouri. Currently she is based out of the Trenton recruiting office.
