ST. JOSEPH - The Missouri Army National Guard's 27th Recruiting and Retention Battalion recently honored Soldiers for their past year's efforts in building the National Guard state-wide.
Among those honored was Sgt. 1st Class Bobby Smith with Area 1, 27th Recruiting and Retention Battalion in St. Joseph. Smith received the Recruiting and Retention Commander-Sergeant Major Award.
The award is presented to recruiting and retention noncommissioned officers who produced 15-17 new enlistments during the year.
"This award makes me proud," said Smith. "Not of my efforts, but this award means that the local communities that I serve are strong, patriotic communities that are willing to step up and support their country's call. Without the brave citizens of each of the small towns in northwest Missouri, I am unable to do my job, without the proud people supporting the Missouri National Guard my job is harder."
Smith has been with the National Guard for 15 years and has been a recruiter for over five years in northwest Missouri. Currently he is based out of the Albany recruiting office.
