ST. JOSEPH - The Missouri Army National Guard's 27th Recruiting and Retention Battalion recently honored Soldiers for their past year's efforts in building the National Guard state-wide.

Among those honored were Staff Sgt. Michael Thomas with Company A, 27th Recruiting and Retention Battalion in St. Joseph. Thomas walked away with the Recruit Sustainment Program Coordinator of the Year Award. The honor is based on statistics and overall performance and eight areas compete with each other across the state.

"This award is not an individual award," said Thomas. "It is more of an area award. It shows that our Soldiers, cadre and RSP staff continue to meet and surpass our expectations."

Thomas has been with the National Guard for 11 years. He has mentored new recruits in the RSP program for almost six years in St. Joseph.
