JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Missouri Governor Jay Nixon launched the Show-Me Heroes program in January 2010 to help Missouri veterans and members of the National Guard and Reserve reconnect with meaningful careers. Show-Me Heroes continues to help veterans and Service members with their job hunt as well as recognizing Missouri employers for their support.

Modine Manufacturing Company and Capital Mortgage Solutions recently received the Governor's Flag of Freedom award for their outstanding commitment to hiring Missouri veterans.

"We are here today to recognize a great organization that is helping boost our economy not only by hiring hard working Missourians, but by hiring employees who are clearly some of the very best our state has to offer," said Lt. Col. Alan Rohlfing, the director of Show-Me Heroes.

Currently, approximately 15 percent of Modine's employee's are veterans.

"I'm proud to accept this award on behalf of Modine and all of our employee's here," said Maurice Ledin, the plant manager. "The military has done a great job in providing us with excellent employees that are very dedicated to what they do."

Missouri's veterans hold unique skill sets and on-the-job experience that makes them qualified for a variety of jobs.

"They prove to be very disciplined, they take instructions well, and it's just a pleasure to work with them," Ledin said. "They understand that there are ways to do things and you want to be consistent about doing things, and in manufacturing that's really important."

Capital Mortgage Solutions, a smaller organization, signed the pledge of support to Missouri's veterans during a separate ceremony.

"I learned a lot about the military through my wife, who works full-time for the Missouri National Guard, and my mother-in-law who is a Missouri Guardsman," Wooley said. "I've learned so much through them about the struggles that Guardsmen can go through and so we, Capital Mortgage, like to help when we can."

Employers can sign a pledge of support to Missouri's veterans. Those who sign pledge to reach out to Missouri's veterans and National Guard and Reserve members to employ them in their workforce, to take full advantage of Show-Me Heroes to match qualified Veterans and Service members with appropriate job openings, and to provide increased employment interview occasions and enhanced hiring opportunities to Veterans and Missouri's Guardsmen and Reservists.

"Governor Nixon believes that every Missourian owes a debt of a gratitude to the men and women who serve in our armed forces." Rohlfing said. "That's why at the beginning of 2010, he established the Show-Me Heroes program as a way to connect these men and women with job opportunities here in Missouri, whether they are returning home from active duty service or simply between careers."

Since the program began, 2,406 Missouri employers have taken the pledge and more than 1,900 veterans have been hired by those organizations, Rohlfing said.

"These are numbers to be proud of, but we feel we are just getting started," Rohlfing said. "We encourage all Missouri employers to take the Show Me Heroes pledge."
