JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Mr. Edward Farnsworth, president of the Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City, was presented a Patriot Award from the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve in recognition of extraordinary support of his employees who serve in the Missouri National Guard and Reserve.

The award was presented to Farnsworth for outstanding support over the past ten years to Janelle Fischer-Schulte, a registered nurse and the spouse of Command Sgt. Maj. James Schulte, State Command Sergeant Major of the Missouri Army National Guard.

"Capital Region Medical Center has never wavered and has held steadfast in their support to me," said Fischer-Schulte. "My husband has had two deployments and three trip missions to Afghanistan, as well as my step-son's deployment to Iraq. Capital Region Medical Center has also proudly served our great state and country right alongside our Service members and Families."

ESGR develops and promotes employer support for Guard and Reserve service by advocating relevant initiatives, recognizing outstanding support, increasing awareness of applicable laws, and resolving conflict between employers and Service members.

"We greatly appreciate this award and the significance that comes with it," Farnsworth said. "I am proud to be a part of this organization and part of the philosophy of supporting the military. It's very humbling for Capital Region to have this award."

Not only is Farnsworth recognized for his support of military members, but his support of military Family members.

"This award recognizes you and Capital Region, but it starts with leadership and the attitude and tone that you set," Schulte said. "We as Soldiers get a lot of recognition and there has never been a better time to wear the uniform, but very often it is the spouses and Families that are forgotten. So we're glad to recognize all of you for your support."

Also present at the award ceremony was Sharon Naught, Vice Chair of the Capital Region Board.

"On behalf of the board, we would like to thank everyone for this award," Naught said. "We have a great leader here and he's the one that inspires this organization to do a lot of the things it does."
