KANSAS CITY - Jason Greer, of Blue Springs, recently enlisted in the Missouri Army National Guard. His brother-in-law, Lt. Steve Carter, of Clinton, was there for support and to swear him in.
"Lt. Carter is also my brother-in-law, so it was an honor to have him swear me in and show his support of my decision," said Greer. "The National Guard offers me the opportunity to be a part of something greater while doing things you do not get to experience in normal everyday life."
"He is a good guy and the Guard is better now because of his enlistment," said Carter. "It truly is a great honor to be able to swear in a family member."
Carter said that originally he joined the active-duty Army and Greer soon followed suit. After a break in service Carter enlisted into the Missouri Army National Guard and now Greer is again keeping with tradition.
"He asked a lot of questions and I provided a lot of answers," said Carter. "He got to see what the Guard life was like through me because he is my brother in-law and we do spend time together. I just want to be a solid role model for him as he continues to answer the call of our Nation."
Greer's short-term goal is to be accepted into Officer Candidate School and start on the path of becoming an officer. He will serve with Company D, 1-135th Attack Reconnaissance Battalion at Whiteman Air Force Base as a chemical operations specialist.
