JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - First Lt. Eric Dier, of Russelville, was presented with the Army National Guard Award of Excellence at a ceremony in Arlington, Va., on Oct. 21.
The award was a part of the 2009 Col. Charles J. Reddy Leadership Conference, which is sponsored annually by the Army Nurse Corps. Similar awards are also given to members of the active Army and the Army Reserves.
Dier serves as the deputy to the state surgeon and chief of the health services branch. He works with the Missouri National Guard Medical Detachment and the Guard's health service office. Dier said he received the award due to the hard work of his staff.
"I have an excellent staff," he said. "They're the ones that should have been standing up there receiving the award for all their hard work and dedication."
Maj. Gen. Patricia Horoho, the chief of the Army Nurse Corps, presented the award to Dier. The award has been presented to the top nurse in the active Army, Army Reserves and Army National Guard since 1992.
"A leader is just there to represent what his people do," Dier said. "It was a great honor to even be considered for the award."
