JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Three representatives from TriWest Healthcare Alliance presented a $10,000 check to the Missouri Military Family Relief Fund on Dec. 1.
Brig. Gen. Stephen Danner, adjutant general of the Missouri National Guard, was on hand to receive the donation. Danner said the donation is especially timely since it comes during the holidays.
"We are very appreciative of TriWest's generous donation," Danner said. "This will really, really help a lot of our families."
The healthcare company administers TriCare, the healthcare entitlement program that serves members of the National Guard, Reserves and the active military in 21 states.
Don Brown, the TriWest vice president of Midwest operations, said the donation is a part of a greater culture of philanthropy within the company. Because many officials from the company are former service members themselves, they are familiar with the hardships that go along with military service.
"We know exactly what happens when a spouse deploys," he said.
The Missouri Military Relief Fund is a state-administered fund that assists families of military service members who have been called to active duty since Sept. 11. Since its inception in 2006, the fund has raised roughly $450,000
