KANSAS CITY - More than 100 JROTC cadets from Lincoln College Preparatory Academy in Kansas City participated in a command inspection Wednesday, Dec. 15. Local Missouri Army National Guardsmen were on hand to conduct the open ranks inspection and provide support to the 8th-12th grade students.

The command inspection helps cadets put into action what they have been learning in the classroom, and prepares them for further instruction in the JROTC program and possibly a career in the military.

According to Maj. Ronald Buske, JROTC instructor, this is the first year that each school in the Kansas City, Mo. School District was responsible for conducting their own inspections. It also marks the first time Missouri Guardsmen have been asked to carry out the assessment.

"Beyond our expectation the Guard has participated in providing four quality officers and NCOs to help with this inspection and it's turned out really, really great," said Buske. "It was a big, big help for Lincoln's program."

After the inspection and pass and review, Lt. Col. Jeffrey Sloan, administrative officer with the Missouri Army National Guard, addressed the cadets and praised them on their performance.

"You definitely have your stuff together," said Sloan. "I congratulate every one of you for being a member of the organization. Whether or not you go on and join a branch of service when you graduate, everything that you learn while you're a member of this organization is going to help you out no matter what you do."
