What is the Veterans
Awards Program?
In the 2006 legislative session, the
Vietnam War Medallion was added. The Vietnam War award consists of a
medal, medallion and certificate. Pictures of this award are not yet
available.
The Veterans Award Program was
first established in 2000 with the creation of the World War II Veterans’
Award Recognition.
The World War II Veterans’
Award Recognition consists of a medal, medallion and certificate. World War
II veterans who participated in the D-Day invasion of Europe are also
eligible to receive a replica of the Jubilee of Liberty
medal.
Since the program began, over
41,000 Missouri veterans have been awarded the World War II Veterans’ Award
Recognition.
In the 2003 legislative
session, the Korean War Medallion was added. The Korean War award
consists of a medal, medallion, and certificate. Pictures of this award are
not yet available.
Who May Apply for the
Awards?
Veterans, spouses of veterans,
or the eldest living survivor of veterans who meet the requirements below.

What are the
Eligibility Requirements for the World War II Veterans’ Award?
-
Veteran served on active duty in the United States military
service at any time during the period of December 7, 1941 to December 30,
1946.
-
Veteran was honorably separated or discharged from military
service, is still in active service in honorable status, or was in active
service in an honorable status at time of death.
-
Veteran was a legal resident of Missouri on August 28, 2000,
that either entered or was discharged from military service, or was a legal resident of this state at the time of his or her death.
-
The World War II medal, medallion, and certificate shall be
awarded regardless of whether or not such veteran served with in the United
States or a foreign country.
-
Jubilee of Liberty: Veteran must meet above
requirements and must have participated in the Normandy Invasion in France
during the period of June 6, 1944 to August 31, 1944.
What are the
Eligibility Requirements for the Korean War Veterans’ Award?
-
Veteran served on active duty in the
United States military service at any time during the period of June 27,
1950 to January 31, 1955.

Veteran was honorably separated or
discharged from military service, is still in active service in
honorable status, or was in active service in an honorable status at
time of death.
-
Veteran was a legal resident of
Missouri on August 28, 2003, that either entered or was discharged from
military service, or was a legal resident of this state at the time of
his or her death.
-
The Korean War medal, medallion, and
certificate shall be awarded regardless of whether or not such veteran
served within the United States or a foreign country.

period of February 28, 1961 to May 7, 1975.

Veteran was honorably separated or
discharged from military service, is currently in active service in
honorable status, or was in active service in an honorable status at the
time of his or her death.

Veteran is a legal resident of
Missouri on August 28, 2006 or was a legal resident of Missouri at the
time he or she entered or was discharged from military service or a
legal resident of Missouri at the time of his or her death.

The Vietnam War medal, medallion,
and certificate shall be awarded regardless of whether or not such
veteran served within the United States or in a foreign country.
